The Commission

Please add this worship song to your online church sermon, morning devotion, or evening quiet time.
Today’s song is “The Commission” performed by Cain

“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.  And when they saw Him they worshiped Him, but some doubted.  And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”
Matthew 28: 16-20 (ESV)

Occasionally, you view a video that touches you to the depth of your soul.   Today’s video, “The Commission,” performed by Cain, does this for me.

As I watch this video, I see and imagine Jesus actively involved in the lives of men, women, and children as He walked this earth.  It must have been marvellous to walk, talk, celebrate, and commune with Him as His apostles and followers did two thousand years ago.  Certainly, they could not fully appreciate who He was and how He would change their lives forever.

Stories found within the chapters of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John depict Jesus as the ultimate friend; loving, selfless, encouraging, empathetic, charismatic, righteous, compelling, loyal, and sinless.  Not to mention the ultimate healer, teacher, miracle worker, saviour, and King of kings and Lord of lords.

When I watch this video, I wonder how our lives will be viewed someday.  What scenes of our lives may we see when Jesus, through the Spirit, walked, talked, celebrated, and communed with us during these last days?  I suspect, just as in the days that Jesus walked the earth, we do not fully appreciate how He interacts with us as we go about our daily activities (in our celebrations and sorrows) and how He is designing a tapestry of our lives for His Kingdom.

What a wonderful friend we have, a friend available to each of us, a friend who has given His very life so we may have life through Him.

Finally, in this video, I see a glimpse of Jesus’ eyes, eyes full of love, light, grace, mercy, and wonder.  Soon, not that long away, we will look into His loving eyes, see Him face to face, and feel the warmth of His embrace; what rejoicing that will be!

For now, though, we must hold on for a little while.  We have been commissioned to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that men may be saved through Him.  We look forward to sharing eternity with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Hallelujah, praise be to God!

In Christ,
Lou-Anne

The Commission
Lyrics

See my hands and look at my feet
It’s okay if it’s hard to believe
I have faith you will do greater things
It’s my time to go but before I leave

Go tell the world about me
I was dead but now I live
I’ve gotta go now for a little while
But goodbye is not the end

Don’t forget the things that I taught you
I’ve conquered death and I hold the keys
Where I go you will go too, someday
But there’s much to do here before you leave

End of the journey, the end of the road
My spirit is with you wherever you go
You have a purpose and I have a plan
I’ll make you this promise
I’ll come back again but until then

May we grow together in the love of Christ to reflect upon the mercies and blessings upon our lives, to feel the presence of God’s living Holy Spirit through worship to sing, pray, laugh, dance, cry, but mostly to praise our Lord and Father as we were indeed created2praise.
