Today’s song is “New Wine” led by Brooke Ligertwood of Hillsong Worship
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one after drinking old wine wants new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”
Luke 5:37-39 (NIV)
“On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to Him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve Me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then He told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which He revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
John 2:1-11 (NIV)
New Wine
It is hard to believe we have already arrived in 2026. As we enter this season of new beginnings, it is a perfect time to reflect on this week’s song, “New Wine” led by Brooke Ligertwood of Hillsong Worship.
We read in the Gospels about Jesus’ parable in which He taught that pouring new wine into old wineskins would cause the skins to burst, ruining both the old and the new wine. He warned that, to preserve the wine, it must be poured into new wineskins. He was teaching His followers that the “old wineskins,” or old ways, should not be packaged with new teachings. In other words, old ways, religious structures, and rigid expectations would spoil when merged with His new teachings, the Spirit, and the Kingdom of God He was establishing.
Bringing this forward to 2026, this timeless parable reminds us that clinging to the rigid structures of the past risks our missing the “new wine” God is pouring out today. Clinging to the past only hinders our future potential.
This may be a great time to ask ourselves, Has God been crushing and pressing the ‘grapes’ of our lives to produce a wine for this new season? Have we felt our world is upside down, yet deep inside, we believe we are being prepared for a fresh move of God? Perhaps He has been refining us for this specific moment in history, regardless of our age, background, or status, to serve a purpose that brings Heaven to Earth. Is this the time to offer ourselves as a living vessel and offering for His plans and purposes? Why not take a moment to talk to Him about it? If you do, I am certain the Holy Spirit will guide and direct you into all good things for His Kingdom.
In conclusion, if you feel you are in a season of “crushing,” remember that this is how the best wine is made. God is likely preparing you for a greater purpose in this cultural and spiritual climate. Don’t let your past limit your future. Today, why not surrender your old life, attitudes, desires, and plans so He can use you in a great and glorious way? Why not surrender your plans to Him and watch Him provide the finances, health, strength, freedom, and resources you need to build His Kingdom? He is a good Father, and He has likely saved the best for last.
In Christ,
Lou-Anne

New Wine
Lyric Highlights
In the crushing In the pressing
You are making New wine
In the soil, I Now surrender
You are breaking New ground
So I yield to You and to Your careful hand
When I trust You I don’t need to understand
Make me Your vessel
Make me an offering
Make me whatever You want me to be
I came here with nothing
But all You have given me
Jesus, bring new wine out of me
‘Cause where there is new wine
There is new power There is new freedom
And the kingdom is here I lay down my old flames
To carry Your new fire today.
May we grow together in the love of Christ to reflect upon the mercies and blessings upon our lives, to feel the presence of God’s living Holy Spirit through worship to sing, pray, laugh, dance, cry, but mostly to praise our Lord and Father as we were indeed created2praise.
