The God Who Sees

Please add this worship song to your online church sermon, morning devotion, or evening quiet time.
Today’s song is “The God Who Sees” performed by Nicole C. Mullens

“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’”
Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
John 6:35 (NIV)

I have chosen for this week’s song “The God Who Sees,” performed by Nicole C. Mullen.  This is a twelve-minute oratorio.  I have been waiting for a special time to share “The God Who Sees;” I have felt the nudge from the Holy Spirit to do so this week; I believe it is very special and anointed of God.  The inspiration for the song was Hagar.  What about Hagar?  Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant, but she was cast from the family she had belonged to.  Hagar now believed she and her son would die in the desert. Did God care about her?  It is easy to parallel Hagar and the others in this video with our own lives; we have all faced our own valleys and deserts.  But just as God would provide a covering, “a ring of fire,” for Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdelene, He will do so for you and me today.

Fun Facts regarding El Roi “The God Who Sees”
Hagar is the only person in the Bible- male/female, Jew/Gentile, King/Prophet/commoner/slave who addressed/named God personally.
It was later in life that Hagar, out of gratitude, gave God the name El Roi, “the God Who Sees.”

Fun Facts regarding “The House of Bread”
Bethlehem is old Hebrew and comes from bêth (house) and lehem (bread).
The House of Bread could mean a place where one could come and eat when hungry, a place of supply for the hungry.
The first mention of the House of Bread is found in Genesis 35:19
The first mention of Bethlehem as the House of Bread is found in
Isaiah 58: 6-7
Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” was where Jesus entered the world on that first Christmas morning.’ Jesus would refer to Himself as “the bread of Life.”
One day, Jesus would give His own life to be our Bread of Life.

The storyline of “The God who Sees” travels through the ages of the Bible.  It begins with Hagar, the maidservant of Sarah, cast from the family; a single mother, feeling abandoned and un-loveable, facing death in the desert; Hagar would fall to her knees, praying that God would rescue her.  One day, He would lift her as the grandmother in the line of a great nation.  Now Ruth, a widow from Moab, living in despair, with no future, believing her life was over, yet out of loyalty, love, and respect, adopted her mother-in-law’s God, the God of Israel, vowing to worship, praise, and serve Him for the rest of her life.  One day, God would lift her, make her life new again, and bring her back to life; she would be blessed with a son named Obed, who gave birth to a son Jesse, who gave birth to a son David.  One day, our Saviour would be born through Ruth to free the world from sin.  Next, David (born of Jessie) was anointed as King, yet alone in the desert, terrified for his life.  David believed His life was over; he would fall on his knees and pray to God.  Over and over, God would place a ring of fire around David.  One day, David would be in the lineage of our Messiah, The Anointed One, Yeshua, the Christ.  Finally, Mary of Magdalen, plagued by demons and tormented by evil spirits, would have an encounter with Jesus; Jesus would rescue her, love her, befriend her, and honour her with a personal relationship with Himself.  Although Mary would find herself in the depths of despair as she watched as they crucified her Lord, she would be, once again, lifted, honoured as one of the first that Jesus would reveal Himself after His resurrection.

Two thousand years later, we still battle demons of abandonment, loneliness, depression, fear, and anxiety.  We, or our loved ones, may be in a wilderness, in a desert place, broken, lonely, or scared, as Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdalen.  We can all take comfort that the same God that covered each of these women and men covers those of us that cry out and fall on our knees today.  God saw, knew, and cared for Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdalen; God sees me, knows me, and cares for me; God sees you, knows you, and cares for you; God sees, knows, and cares for our children, the lost, the broken, the abandoned, and those going through hard times, crushed by life, wondering/questioning.

God proved and continues to prove that He Sees, He knows, He cares, and He shows up every time with a resonating “yes, I am a God who sees, I see all, I have a perfect plan with perfect timing, and through my Spirit, I will, live, breathe, and work through your circumstance to triumph over any desert experience you may be experiencing.
I will be Your Ring of Fire!

“’ And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’”
Zachariah 2: 5 (NIV)

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2: 10-11 (NIV)

In Christ,
Lou-Anne

The God Who Sees
Lyrics

… Hagar was a single motherShe was abandoned by the family she belonged toAnd there in the wilderness with her son aloneWith very little provisionShe was wonderingShe was questioningDoes anyone care?

… She’s crying in the desertShe’s lost in her despairShe thinks nobody loves herHagar thinks nobody’s thereBut God says

… I will be a ring of fire around herAnd I will be the glory in her midstAnd the power of my presenceWill bring her to her kneesAnd I will lift her up againFor I’m the God who seesI’m the God who sees

… Then He speaks in gentle whispersAnd He softly calls her nameShe feels His arms enfold herAs He holds herAnd she’ll never be the same

… ‘Cause I’m the God who never changesAnd My promises are trueAnd when this world deserts youThis is what I’ll do

… And there is another woman named RuthShe was from the land of MoabAnd she was met with grief and heartacheShe was a widow and she lived with her mother-in-law, who was also a widowAnd now it was time to move onBut Ruth had never been to BethlehemShe had never tasted of the House of BreadBut now she had heard an inner invitation to come and taste and seeAnd so she vowed herself to her mother-in-lawAnd she said where you go I will goWhere you lie I will lieWhere you die I will dieAnd she begins a journey to the Promised Land

… She’s traveling through the desertAnd she’s leaving her despairShe’s hoping for a futurePraying God will lead her thereAnd He says

… I will put a ring around you fingerAnd I will bless a child within your wombAnd the Savior will be born through youTo free the world from sinAnd He’ll make all things new for youAnd love you back to life again, again

… And then from Ruth who gave birth to a sonObed who gave birth to a sonJesse who gave birth to a sonNamed DavidNow the same, once shepherd boyMighty warrior, anointed king is aloneTerrified in the darkness

… He’s hiding in the desertHe’s battling despairDavid thinks his life is over, it’s overAnd God, He doesn’t careBut God says

… I will be the Rock of your salvationI’ll hold you up by the strength of My right handAnd the power of My SpiritWill free you from all fearIn the hour of your deepest needYou’ll find that I am nearI am here

… And I will be a ring of fire around youAnd I will be the glory in your midstAnd the power of My presenceWill bring you to your kneesThen I will lift you up againFor I’m the God who sees

… And then from the line of DavidFinally, Jesus the MessiahThe Anointed One, Yeshua, the ChristBorn in the same House of Bread to be the Bread of LifeIn the town of BethlehemAnd He would growAnd He would be called the Son of GodHe would be called Emmanuel, God With UsAnd He would heal, and He would revealAnd then He had an encounter with a womanNamed Mary of Magdalen who was plagued by demonsTormented by evil spirits, and Jesus set her freeAnd Mary followed Him, she listened at His feetShe served Him, and she loved HimOh how she loved HimBut then she watched as they nailed Him to the crossAnd as they placed His body in the tombIn that moment her hope died, it died

… She’s crying in the gardenShe’s broken in despairShe’s searching for her SaviorBut His body isn’t thereThen He says, Mary

… Glory, glory, glory, HallelujahI will be the glory in Your midstAnd every knee will bow to MeAnd every tongue confessYes all the world will worship MeIn all My Holiness

… I will be a ring of fire around youAnd I will be the glory in your midstAnd the power of My presenceWill bring you to your kneesAnd I will lift you up againFor I’m the God who sees, who seesI’m the God who seesOh I’m the God who sees, I see youI’m the God who sees you in your wildernessSees you in your brokennessWhen you’re feeling lonely, I’m the God who seesIn the desert places, in your empty spacesI’m the God who seesI’m nearer than you dare believeHere in the very air you breatheI’m the God who seesYou

May we grow together in the love of Christ to reflect upon the mercies and blessings upon our lives, to feel the presence of God’s living Holy Spirit through worship to sing, pray, laugh, dance, cry, but mostly to praise our Lord and Father as we were indeed created2praise.
