Today’s song is “The God Who Sees” performed by Nicole C. Mullens
“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’”
Genesis 16:13 (NIV)
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
John 6:35 (NIV)
I have chosen for this week’s song “The God Who Sees,” performed by Nicole C. Mullen. This is a twelve-minute oratorio. I have been waiting for a special time to share “The God Who Sees;” I have felt the nudge from the Holy Spirit to do so this week; I believe it is very special and anointed of God. The inspiration for the song was Hagar. What about Hagar? Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant, but she was cast from the family she had belonged to. Hagar now believed she and her son would die in the desert. Did God care about her? It is easy to parallel Hagar and the others in this video with our own lives; we have all faced our own valleys and deserts. But just as God would provide a covering, “a ring of fire,” for Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdelene, He will do so for you and me today.
Fun Facts regarding El Roi “The God Who Sees”
Hagar is the only person in the Bible- male/female, Jew/Gentile, King/Prophet/commoner/slave who addressed/named God personally.
It was later in life that Hagar, out of gratitude, gave God the name El Roi, “the God Who Sees.”
Fun Facts regarding “The House of Bread”
Bethlehem is old Hebrew and comes from bêth (house) and lehem (bread).
The House of Bread could mean a place where one could come and eat when hungry, a place of supply for the hungry.
The first mention of the House of Bread is found in Genesis 35:19
The first mention of Bethlehem as the House of Bread is found in
Isaiah 58: 6-7
Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” was where Jesus entered the world on that first Christmas morning.’ Jesus would refer to Himself as “the bread of Life.”
One day, Jesus would give His own life to be our Bread of Life.
The storyline of “The God who Sees” travels through the ages of the Bible. It begins with Hagar, the maidservant of Sarah, cast from the family; a single mother, feeling abandoned and un-loveable, facing death in the desert; Hagar would fall to her knees, praying that God would rescue her. One day, He would lift her as the grandmother in the line of a great nation. Now Ruth, a widow from Moab, living in despair, with no future, believing her life was over, yet out of loyalty, love, and respect, adopted her mother-in-law’s God, the God of Israel, vowing to worship, praise, and serve Him for the rest of her life. One day, God would lift her, make her life new again, and bring her back to life; she would be blessed with a son named Obed, who gave birth to a son Jesse, who gave birth to a son David. One day, our Saviour would be born through Ruth to free the world from sin. Next, David (born of Jessie) was anointed as King, yet alone in the desert, terrified for his life. David believed His life was over; he would fall on his knees and pray to God. Over and over, God would place a ring of fire around David. One day, David would be in the lineage of our Messiah, The Anointed One, Yeshua, the Christ. Finally, Mary of Magdalen, plagued by demons and tormented by evil spirits, would have an encounter with Jesus; Jesus would rescue her, love her, befriend her, and honour her with a personal relationship with Himself. Although Mary would find herself in the depths of despair as she watched as they crucified her Lord, she would be, once again, lifted, honoured as one of the first that Jesus would reveal Himself after His resurrection.
Two thousand years later, we still battle demons of abandonment, loneliness, depression, fear, and anxiety. We, or our loved ones, may be in a wilderness, in a desert place, broken, lonely, or scared, as Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdalen. We can all take comfort that the same God that covered each of these women and men covers those of us that cry out and fall on our knees today. God saw, knew, and cared for Hagar, Ruth, David, and Mary of Magdalen; God sees me, knows me, and cares for me; God sees you, knows you, and cares for you; God sees, knows, and cares for our children, the lost, the broken, the abandoned, and those going through hard times, crushed by life, wondering/questioning.
God proved and continues to prove that He Sees, He knows, He cares, and He shows up every time with a resonating “yes, I am a God who sees, I see all, I have a perfect plan with perfect timing, and through my Spirit, I will, live, breathe, and work through your circumstance to triumph over any desert experience you may be experiencing.
I will be Your Ring of Fire!
“’ And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’”
Zachariah 2: 5 (NIV)
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2: 10-11 (NIV)
In Christ,

The God Who Sees
Lyrics
… Hagar was a single mother
She was abandoned by the family she belonged to And there in the wilderness with her son alone With very little provision She was wondering She was questioning Does anyone care?… She’s crying in the desert
She’s lost in her despair She thinks nobody loves her Hagar thinks nobody’s there But God says… I will be a ring of fire around her
And I will be the glory in her midst And the power of my presence Will bring her to her knees And I will lift her up again For I’m the God who sees I’m the God who sees… Then He speaks in gentle whispers
And He softly calls her name She feels His arms enfold her As He holds her And she’ll never be the same… ‘Cause I’m the God who never changes
And My promises are true And when this world deserts you This is what I’ll do… And there is another woman named Ruth
She was from the land of Moab And she was met with grief and heartache She was a widow and she lived with her mother-in-law, who was also a widow And now it was time to move on But Ruth had never been to Bethlehem She had never tasted of the House of Bread But now she had heard an inner invitation to come and taste and see And so she vowed herself to her mother-in-law And she said where you go I will go Where you lie I will lie Where you die I will die And she begins a journey to the Promised Land… She’s traveling through the desert
And she’s leaving her despair She’s hoping for a future Praying God will lead her there And He says… I will put a ring around you finger
And I will bless a child within your womb And the Savior will be born through you To free the world from sin And He’ll make all things new for you And love you back to life again, again… And then from Ruth who gave birth to a son
Obed who gave birth to a son Jesse who gave birth to a son Named David Now the same, once shepherd boy Mighty warrior, anointed king is alone Terrified in the darkness… He’s hiding in the desert
He’s battling despair David thinks his life is over, it’s over And God, He doesn’t care But God says… I will be the Rock of your salvation
I’ll hold you up by the strength of My right hand And the power of My Spirit Will free you from all fear In the hour of your deepest need You’ll find that I am near I am here… And I will be a ring of fire around you
And I will be the glory in your midst And the power of My presence Will bring you to your knees Then I will lift you up again For I’m the God who sees… And then from the line of David
Finally, Jesus the Messiah The Anointed One, Yeshua, the Christ Born in the same House of Bread to be the Bread of Life In the town of Bethlehem And He would grow And He would be called the Son of God He would be called Emmanuel, God With Us And He would heal, and He would reveal And then He had an encounter with a woman Named Mary of Magdalen who was plagued by demons Tormented by evil spirits, and Jesus set her free And Mary followed Him, she listened at His feet She served Him, and she loved Him Oh how she loved Him But then she watched as they nailed Him to the cross And as they placed His body in the tomb In that moment her hope died, it died… She’s crying in the garden
She’s broken in despair She’s searching for her Savior But His body isn’t there Then He says, Mary… Glory, glory, glory, Hallelujah
I will be the glory in Your midst And every knee will bow to Me And every tongue confess Yes all the world will worship Me In all My Holiness… I will be a ring of fire around you
And I will be the glory in your midst And the power of My presence Will bring you to your knees And I will lift you up again For I’m the God who sees, who sees I’m the God who sees Oh I’m the God who sees, I see you I’m the God who sees you in your wilderness Sees you in your brokenness When you’re feeling lonely, I’m the God who sees In the desert places, in your empty spaces I’m the God who sees I’m nearer than you dare believe Here in the very air you breathe I’m the God who sees YouSource: Musixmatch

May we grow together in the love of Christ to reflect upon the mercies and blessings upon our lives, to feel the presence of God’s living Holy Spirit through worship to sing, pray, laugh, dance, cry, but mostly to praise our Lord and Father as we were indeed created2praise.
